Just dx with diabetes

Posted in Group:

Hi all, I am a bit shocked to have been dx with diabetes. I am in good physical condition, eat well but still got this disease. Do most of you eat small meals several times a day? I am very new to this but am scared because my dad died from complications of diabetes in 2008. He did not take care of himself. I am also a non hodgkins lymphoma survivor.

Typically yes, it is recommended to eat several small meals a day or three meals plus snacks. It will depend on your readings. There are a lot of great free online meal planning guides for diabetics, just google diabetic meal planning guide and you can get a very good idea as to what you should aim for.

My mother is in excellent health but she is constantly struggling to keep herself on the very narrow precipice of pre-diabetes. Her father also had diabetes as well as her sister, sometime you just cannot escape genetics. You can however continue to be vigilant with your health and diet and look at this as a minor blip on your health radar.
