Sugar: highs and lows.

Posted in Group:

It can be tricky managing diabetes iv'e had type 2 for 7 or 8 years , i'm heavy and like to eat alot when i eat. Still i can wake up and have high sugar but at the same time i can not eat most of the day and my sugar will be where the dr says it should be , i find on certain days that i want to cut back on eating i just drink juice throughout the day to keep from getting the shakes and my sugar will be still somewhat high . what can you do? so i just make sure i take my insulin.

Giller,
You may as well go ahead and eat something for the calories. Fruit juice is loaded with sugar - albeit natural - it still raises your blood sugar. I wake up in themorning with high blood sugar, yet that doesn't stop me from eating things with sugar or high carb count. You are doing good by taking your insulin. Just remember, it is healthier to eat your calories than to just drink juice all day. Maybe eat 6 small meals a day and that will stabilize your BS. So they say. I am good at giving sensible advice, but when it comes to following it myself.......well.....not so much!
